In "Black Oddyssey," the carnival becomes a mirror reflecting our contemporary digital spectacle, where social media has become our modern-day circus ring. Through this immersive installation, we examine how Black identity is simultaneously celebrated and commodified, viewed and reviewed through the distorted lens of media representation. The work draws parallel lines between historical carnival sideshows and today's digital platforms, where Black culture is often reduced to consumable moments, viral sensations, and oversimplified narratives. The carnival setting becomes a metaphor for the performative nature of social media, where authenticity wrestles with presentation, and cultural expression dangles between celebration and spectacle.

By reimagining the traditional carnival aesthetic, the installation challenges the persistent notion of Black identity as a monolith. Each character and scene serves as a testament to the vast spectrum of Black experiences, personalities, and narratives that exist beyond the narrow confines of mainstream media portrayal. This work confronts the paradox of visibility in American culture – where Black identity is simultaneously hypervisible and unseen in its true complexity. Through this lens, "Black Oddyssey" questions who controls the narrative, who profits from it, and how the digital circus of modern media continues to shape perceptions of Black identity in America.

Positioning viewers as both spectators and participants, the installation challenges them to examine their own role in this modern spectacle. It asks us to consider how we consume, share, and interpret Black culture through our screens, and whether these digital platforms serve as windows for understanding or mirrors reflecting our own preconceptions. In doing so, "Black Oddyssey" seeks not only to highlight the diversity within Black culture but to prompt a deeper conversation about how we perceive, present, and preserve the multifaceted nature of Black identity in our digital age.
