UK Bronze Sculpture Release

In a departure from his pop-art creations, Brantley and Fluorescent Smogg have produced a series of bronze sculptures of Fly Boy.The pieces were sculpted by Brantley, then cast by fine art specialists Wolf and Stone using traditional methods which date from some 3000 years ago, perfected by Renaissance artists of the 15th and 16th century such as Donatello and Lorenzo Ghiberti.

Three Editions Will Be Released

Fly Boy Bronze (Classic)
Cast bronze sculpture with a classic red/brown patina.

Sculpture in bronze created using traditional lost-wax casting. The classic red/brown patina was achieved by coating the sculpture in potassium sulphide, which forms a deep brown base colour, and then applying ferric nitrate. At each stage, the sculpture was subjected to intense heat to trigger the chemical reactions that create the piece’s unique colour.Wax has been applied to seal and protect the final result.

300mm (h) × 160mm (w) × 105mm (d) 5.5kg
Edition /5, signed and numbered £8,500

Fly Boy Bronze (Gold)
Cast bronze sculpture with a buffed bright bronze finish

Sculpture in bronze created using traditional lost-wax casting. The golden colour was accomplished by working on the raw sculpture with increasingly finer grades of sandpaper and finishing with a brass brush. It is sealed with a marine-grade clear lacquer to prevent the bronze from tarnishing.

Fly Boy Bronze (Green)
Cast bronze sculpture with a green patina

Sculpture in bronze created using traditional lost-wax casting. The green patina was achieved by coating the sculpture in potassium sulphide, which forms a deep brown base colour, and then applying cupric nitrate. At each stage, the sculpture was subjected to intense heat to trigger the chemical reactions that create the piece’s unique colour.Wax has been applied to seal and protect the final result.
